Sparkler Wedding Photos – How to Get the Perfect Shot Without the Stress
Oh, sparkler wedding photos are dreamy, glowy, and a favourite with couples for a reason. But while they look effortless, there’s a bit of planning involved to make that magical moment happen.
Here’s everything you need to know to plan your perfect sparkler send-off – without the stress!
✨ Use Extra-Long Sparklers
Short sparklers burn out in seconds – not ideal when you’re trying to organise 20 people and still get the perfect shot. Go for extra-long sparklers (16–18 inches) to give everyone enough time to light up and get into place. Here are some on Amazon that a lot of my couples have used before
🔥 Pro tip: Buy spares – a few might fizzle out before they’ve even started!
🕓 Don’t Wait Until It’s Too Dark
Yes, sparkler photos shine best in the evening, but if it’s pitch black, you’ll lose all that lovely ambient light that gives them their magic. Plan your sparkler moment during blue hour – that dreamy time just after sunset when the sky still glows but the sparklers stand out.
Plus, guests are easier to round up before the dance floor fully takes over!

🏛️ Always Check with Your Venue
Before you stock up on sparklers, check with your venue about their rules. Some venues don’t allow them at all, while others have specific locations or limits. For example, The Mill Barns allows sparklers only in a designated area – and with a maximum of 10 people at a time.
Knowing this early saves stress later on!

👯 Keep It Organised (and Safe!)
Sparklers might feel spontaneous, but the best sparkler wedding photos come from a bit of pre-planning. Here’s how to keep things smooth:
Nominate a helper (like a bridesmaid or usher) to hand out sparklers and lighters.
Use windproof lighters – matches and BBQ ones often struggle.
Place a bucket of water or sand nearby so guests can safely drop used sparklers.
As your photographer, I’ll guide everyone into position, light a few sparklers if needed, and make sure you get stunning, safe photos.
